boiler doiley update

both are completed now and hanging - the second one is hanging over the boiler, as it was meant to, but i haven't taken a photo yet

the original has been re-oriented and hangs horizontally, it gets a lot of sunlight which plays well with the colours and casts lovely shadows - but i am a little concerned that some of the colours will fade fast
it's the biggest non-functional piece i've made at 53 x 110cm, i'm still tempted to add to it but i'll let it sit for a while

there is so much in this cloth conjuring! I want to see & touch all the detail, exploring the layers & integration of the symbols and cloths, it's magic!

thank you - it's interesting that you noticed the symbols ... they have no meaning here, i used them purely as shapes or marks, but i'm sure i could work up an interesting narrative if i had to ;-)

i was recently asked if this piece has faded - it's difficult to tell without unpicking it to look at unexposed parts, i could dig out what's left of the original fabrics for comparison (maybe later, when my wrist allows heavy lifting again)

the quick answer is that it hasn't faded noticeably, although some of the yellower areas seem paler and browner - as far as i know natural yellows are more fugitive anyway - i would not have been surprised if it had lost much more detail but close inspection indicates that this doesn't seem to have happened

so overall i am happy with the way it is holding up, especially given my inexperience in eco-dyeing when i did most of it (not that i've improved much since then!)
